For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Volvo V60 Cross Country have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Buick Regal TourX doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.
The V60 Cross Country’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
Both the V60 Cross Country and Regal TourX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The V60 Cross Country has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Regal TourX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.
The V60 Cross Country has a standard Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WHIPS allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.
The V60 Cross Country has standard Automatic Braking After Collision, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.
When descending a steep, off-road slope, the V60 Cross Country’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.
The V60 Cross Country offers an optional 360° Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Regal TourX only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.
The V60 Cross Country’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
Both the V60 Cross Country and the Regal TourX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.
The V60 Cross Country’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Regal TourX’s (12 vs. 6 years).
Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the V60 Cross Country for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Volvo will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Buick only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Regal TourX.
The battery on the V60 Cross Country is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the V60 Cross Country’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Regal TourX’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.
On the EPA test cycle the V60 Cross Country T5 gets better fuel mileage than the Regal TourX (22 city/31 hwy vs. 21 city/29 hwy).
The V60 Cross Country’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Regal TourX are solid, not vented.
The V60 Cross Country’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Regal TourX’s 50 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the V60 Cross Country offers optional 19-inch wheels. The Regal TourX’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.
The V60 Cross Country has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Regal TourX; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the V60 Cross Country’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the Regal TourX (113.2 inches vs. 111.4 inches).
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the V60 Cross Country is 2.1 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than on the Regal TourX.
The V60 Cross Country’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (55% to 45%) than the Regal TourX’s (58.2% to 41.8%). This gives the V60 Cross Country more stable handling and braking.
For better maneuverability, the V60 Cross Country’s turning circle is 2.9 feet tighter than the Regal TourX’s (37.1 feet vs. 40 feet).
The V60 Cross Country is 8 inches shorter than the Regal TourX, making the V60 Cross Country easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The V60 Cross Country has .2 inches more front legroom and .1 inches more front hip room than the Regal TourX.
A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the V60 Cross Country. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.
The V60 Cross Country has a 2000 lbs. towing capacity. The Regal TourX has no towing capacity.
Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors optional at extra cost in the Regal TourX Essence, the V60 Cross Country offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
The V60 Cross Country offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.
The V60 Cross Country’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Regal TourX’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.
If the windows are left open on the V60 Cross Country the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Regal TourX can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
The V60 Cross Country’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Regal TourX’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.
Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the V60 Cross Country to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The V60 Cross Country has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer headlight washers.
While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the V60 Cross Country detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.
The Regal TourX Preferred/Essence’s optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The V60 Cross Country’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.
The V60 Cross Country has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats are only available on the Regal TourX Essence. The V60 Cross Country also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Regal TourX.
Optional air-conditioned seats in the V60 Cross Country keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
The V60 Cross Country offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Regal TourX.
The V60 Cross Country’s optional Park Assist Pilot can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Regal TourX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
The Volvo 60 Series outsold the Buick Regal by almost two to one during 2019.
