For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LC Series have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Chevrolet Camaro doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

The LC Series has a standard Pre-Collision System, which uses forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Camaro offers an available collision warning system without the automated brake feature that would prevent or reduce the collision if the driver fails to react.

The LC Series has standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Camaro doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The LC Series’ lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Camaro doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The LC Series offers optional Intuitive Parking Assist to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The Camaro doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

The LC Series’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Camaro doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the LC Series and the Camaro have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The LC Series comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Camaro’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 14,000 miles sooner.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LC Series 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Chevrolet covers the Camaro. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Camaro ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The LC Series’ 6 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Camaro runs out after 100,000 miles.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the LC Series have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Camaro.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked fourth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2019 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus first in reliability. Chevrolet is ranked 25th.

On the EPA test cycle the LC 500h Auto gets better fuel mileage than the Camaro Auto (26 city/34 hwy vs. 22 city/31 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the LC Series Hybrid’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Camaro doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the LC Series Hybrid’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The Camaro doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The LC Series’ standard fuel tank has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Camaro (21.7 vs. 19 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The LC Series Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Camaro (22.2 vs. 19 gallons).

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Lexus LC Series higher (5 to 7 out of 10) than the Chevrolet Camaro (1 to 6). This means the LC Series produces up to 47 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Camaro every 15,000 miles.

The Lexus LC Series comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the Camaro.

The LC 500h has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Camaro doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better traction and acceleration, the LC Series has larger rear tires than the Camaro (275/40R20 vs. 245/50R18).

The LC Series’ standard 245/45R20 front and 275/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Camaro’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LC Series has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Camaro. The LC Series’ optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the Camaro.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LC Series can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. Run-flat tires aren’t available on some tire packages on the Camaro.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the LC Series’ wheelbase is 2.3 inches longer than on the Camaro (113 inches vs. 110.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the LC Series is 1 inch wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Camaro.

The LC 500 handles at .93 G’s, while the Camaro RS Coupe pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For excellent aerodynamics, the LC Series has standard flush composite headlights. The Camaro has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The LC Series Convertible uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Camaro doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The LC Series’ standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Camaro, and is not available on all models.

The LC Series’ standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower both of them with the lock engaged. Chevrolet does not offer a locking feature on the Camaro’s standard power windows.

If the front windows are left open on the LC Series the driver can close them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Camaro can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The LC Series has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Camaro doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The LC Series’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Camaro’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the LC Series detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Camaro doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LC Series has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Camaro doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The LC Series’ standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Heated mirrors cost extra on the Camaro and aren’t offered on the Camaro LS.

The LC Series has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Camaro doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The LC Series has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Camaro.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the LC Series has a standard Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Camaro doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
