The LC Series’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The S5 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LC Series, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the S5.

The LC 500h has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The S5 doesn’t offer a CVT.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LC Series has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the S5. The LC Series’ optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the S5.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LC Series can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The S5 doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The LC Series has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The S5 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The LC Series’ standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The S5 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The LC Series’ standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower both of them with the lock engaged. Audi does not offer a locking feature on the S5’s standard power windows.

The LC Series’ power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The S5’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LC Series has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The S5 doesn’t offer cornering lights.
