For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Maserati Quattroporte doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.
The AMG E-Class Sedan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
The rear seatbelts optional on the AMG E-Class Sedan inflate when a collision is detected, helping to spread crash forces over a much larger area of the body and limiting head and neck movement. This can help prevent spinal and internal injuries. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer inflatable seatbelts.
To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the AMG E-Class Sedan. But it costs extra on the Quattroporte.
The AMG E-Class Sedan’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
The AMG E-Class Sedan has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.
Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and the Quattroporte have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.
For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard front crash prevention system, and its headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the AMG E-Class Sedan its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2019, a rating granted to only 87 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Quattroporte has not been tested, yet.
The AMG E-Class Sedan’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Quattroporte’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).
There are over 3 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG E-Class Sedan’s warranty.
The AMG E 53’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 5 more horsepower (429 vs. 424) than the Quattroporte S’ standard 3.0 turbo V6. The AMG E 63 S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 80 more horsepower (603 vs. 523) and 103 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 524) than the Quattroporte GTS’ standard 3.8 turbo V8.
On the EPA test cycle the AMG E 53 gets better fuel mileage than the Quattroporte S Q4 (21 city/28 hwy vs. 16 city/23 hwy).
An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG E-Class Sedan’s fuel efficiency. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan higher (5 to 6 out of 10) than the Maserati Quattroporte (1). This means the AMG E-Class Sedan produces up to 45.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Quattroporte every 15,000 miles.
A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Quattroporte.
The AMG E-Class Sedan’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer launch control.
For better stopping power the AMG E-Class Sedan’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Quattroporte:

The AMG E-Class Sedan offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.
For better traction, the AMG E 63 S’ tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Quattroporte (F:265/35R20 & R:295/30R20 vs. F:245/40R20 & R:285/35R20).
The AMG E 53’s standard 245/40R19 front and 275/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Quattroporte’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.
Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the AMG E-Class Sedan can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer run-flat tires.
The front and rear suspension of the AMG E-Class Sedan uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Quattroporte, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The AMG E-Class Sedan’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
The AMG E 53 is 12 inches shorter than the Quattroporte, making the AMG E-Class Sedan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The AMG E-Class Sedan has .4 inches more rear headroom and 1.8 inches more rear shoulder room than the Quattroporte.
With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the AMG E-Class offers cargo security. The Quattroporte’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.
Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Quattroporte, the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
The AMG E-Class Sedan offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and other key instrumentation readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a heads-up display.
Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG E-Class Sedan to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid. Its standard heated washer nozzles will defrost the washer fluid but not the windshield.
The AMG E-Class Sedan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Quattroporte.
To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG E-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
The AMG E-Class Sedan’s optional Active Parking Assist can parallel park by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
The Mercedes AMG E-Class comes in coupe, convertible, sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Maserati Quattroporte isn’t available as a coupe, convertible or station wagon.
