The battery on the Ghibli is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Ghibli’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Q70’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Ghibli’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The Q70 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Ghibli has 1.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the Q70 (21.1 vs. 20 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Ghibli has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Q70 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Ghibli’s standard 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Q70’s standard 50 series tires. The Ghibli’s optional 245/35R21 front and 285/30R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Q70’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghibli has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Q70. The Ghibli’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the Q70.

The Ghibli has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Q70’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Ghibli offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Q70’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Ghibli’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Q70 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ghibli’s wheelbase is 3.8 inches longer than on the Q70 (118 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Ghibli is 2.4 inches wider in the front and 3.4 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Q70.

The Ghibli’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Q70’s (53.8% to 46.2%). This gives the Ghibli more stable handling and braking.

The Ghibli S Q4 handles at .91 G’s, while the Q70 3.7 LUXE pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ghibli S Q4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the Q70 5.6 LUXE AWD (25.5 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Ghibli a Large car, while the Q70 is rated a Mid-size.

The Ghibli has 4.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Q70 (108 vs. 103.6).

The Ghibli has a much larger trunk than the Q70 (17.6 vs. 14.9 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Ghibli easier. The Ghibli’s trunk lift-over height is 25.8 inches, while the Q70’s liftover is 29.1 inches.

The Ghibli’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Q70 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Ghibli’s power trunk can be opened or closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Q70 doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The Ghibli has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Q70 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Ghibli’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Q70 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Ghibli’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Q70’s parking brake has to released manually.

The power windows standard on both the Ghibli and the Q70 have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Ghibli is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Q70 prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Ghibli’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Q70’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Ghibli to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Q70 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Ghibli offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Q70 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Ghibli detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Q70 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.
