Safety

The NV200 has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Transit Connect Van doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the NV200 and the Transit Connect Van have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available rear parking sensors.

Warranty

The NV200 comes with a full 5-year/100,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire van and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Transit Connect Van’s 3-year basic warranty expires 2 years and 64000 miles sooner.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan 10th in reliability, above the industry average. With 19 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 16th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 4 places higher in reliability than Ford.

Transmission

The NV200 has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Transit Connect Van doesn’t offer a CVT.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the NV200’s wheelbase is 10.4 inches longer than on the Short Wheelbase Transit Connect Van (115.2 inches vs. 104.8 inches).

For better maneuverability, the NV200’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the Short Wheelbase Transit Connect Van’s (36.7 feet vs. 38.3 feet). The NV200’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the Long Wheelbase Transit Connect Van’s (36.7 feet vs. 40 feet).

Chassis

The Nissan NV200 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 550 pounds less than the Ford Transit Connect Van.

The NV200 is 3.7 inches shorter than the Long Wheelbase Transit Connect Van, making the NV200 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the NV200 easier. The NV200’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 21.1 inches, while the Transit Connect Van’s liftover is 22.5 inches.

Payload

The NV200 has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Short Wheelbase Transit Connect Van (1502 vs. 1270 lbs.).

Ergonomics

The NV200’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Transit Connect Van’s power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully. Only its driver’s window opens automatically.

The NV200 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Transit Connect Van doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the NV200 has standard steering wheel controls for the radio. The Transit Connect Van doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.
