Safety

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Range Rover doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the AMG GLC 63 Coupe and the Range Rover have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG GLC 63 Coupe, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Range Rover.

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Range Rover doesn’t offer launch control.

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe S offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Range Rover doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the AMG GLC 63 Coupe has larger tires than the Range Rover (F:265/45R20 & R:295/40R20 vs. 235/65R19).

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s standard 265/45R20 front and 295/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover’s standard 65 series tires. The AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s optional 295/35R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series profile than the Range Rover’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG GLC 63 Coupe has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Range Rover.

Suspension and Handling

The AMG GLC63 S Coupe handles at .94 G’s, while the Range Rover Supercharged pulls only .75 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The AMG GLC63 S Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.6 seconds quicker than the Range Rover HSE (24.1 seconds @ .85 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the Range Rover’s (39.7 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s turning circle is 3.2 feet tighter than the Range Rover LWB’s (39.7 feet vs. 42.9 feet).

Chassis

The Mercedes AMG GLC 63 Coupe may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 1200 pounds less than the Land Rover Range Rover.

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe is 10.1 inches shorter than the Range Rover, making the AMG GLC 63 Coupe easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Range Rover’s tailgate’s top part raises up, but the bottom part lowers, getting in the way of loading and making an uneven surface for sliding cargo.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Mercedes service is better than Land Rover. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes fifth in service department satisfaction. With an 89% lower rating, Land Rover is ranked 30th.

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the AMG GLC 63 Coupe the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote (remote must be aimed at door sensor). On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Range Rover can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the AMG GLC 63 Coupe to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Range Rover doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the AMG GLC 63 Coupe offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Range Rover doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG GLC 63 Coupe has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Model Availability

The Mercedes AMG GLC 63 comes in traditional 4-door sport utility and 4-door coupe bodystyles; the Land Rover Range Rover isn’t available as a coupe style sport utility.
