Safety

The A7’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XF doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi A7 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XF doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The A7 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The XF doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the A7. But it costs extra on the XF.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the A7 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The XF doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the A7 and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The A7’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the XF’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 81 percent more Audi dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the A7’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Audi vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 25th in initial quality. With 43 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 30th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 13th in reliability, above the industry average. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 20th.

Engine

The A7’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 88 more horsepower (335 vs. 247) and 100 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 269) than the XF 25t’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The A7’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 39 more horsepower (335 vs. 296) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 295) than the XF 30t’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The A7’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 332) than the XF S’ standard 3.0 supercharged V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the A7 gets better fuel mileage than the XF S AWD (22 city/29 hwy vs. 20 city/28 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Audi A7 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The XF requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The A7 has 1.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the XF Diesel’s standard fuel tank (19.3 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

The A7 offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The XF doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

Tires and Wheels

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the A7 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the XF. The A7 Prestige’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the XF.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the A7 is 2 inches wider in the front and 1.8 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the XF.

For better maneuverability, the A7’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the XF’s (36.4 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

Chassis

The design of the Audi A7 amounts to more than styling. The A7 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is lower than the XF (.28 to .29) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the A7 get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The A7 has .3 inches more front shoulder room and .4 inches more rear legroom than the XF Sedan.

Cargo Capacity

The A7 has a much larger trunk than the XF Sedan with its rear seat up (24.9 vs. 17.8 cubic feet).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Audi third in service department satisfaction. With a 30% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 15th.

Ergonomics

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the A7 has standard extendable sun visors. The XF doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Recommendations

The Audi A7/S7/RS 7 outsold the Jaguar XF by 7% during the 2018 model year.
