Both the 4C and the 370Z have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The 4C comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 370Z’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 14,000 miles sooner.

The 370Z’s redline is at 7500 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The 4C has a 6500 RPM redline.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the 4C has a standard 160-amp alternator. The 370Z’s 150-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

As tested in Car and Driver the Alfa Romeo 4C is faster than the Nissan 370Z (base engine) (automatics tested):

Zero to 60 MPH

4.1 sec

4.6 sec

Quarter Mile

12.8 sec

13.1 sec

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the 4C gets better fuel mileage than the 370Z:

1.8 turbo 4-cyl.

24 city/34 hwy

3.7 DOHC V6

17 city/6 hwy

3.7 DOHC V6

19 city/26 hwy

The 4C has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 370Z doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Alfa Romeo 4C comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the 370Z.

The 4C offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The 370Z doesn’t offer an SMG.

The 4C’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The 370Z doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

The 4C stops much shorter than the 370Z:

70 to 0 MPH

144 feet

163 feet

Car and Driver

60 to 0 MPH

96 feet

111 feet

Tires and Wheels

The 4C’s standard 205/45R17 front and 235/40R18 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 370Z’s standard 50 series front and 45 series rear tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 4C is 4 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 370Z.

The Alfa Romeo 4C may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 850 to 950 pounds less than the Nissan 370Z.

The 4C is 10.5 inches shorter than the 370Z, making the 4C easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces. The 4C is 1 foot, 1.5 inches shorter than the 370Z NISMO.

Servicing Ease

The 4C has a maintenance free battery for long life without checking the battery’s water level. The 370Z doesn’t have a maintenance free battery, so the water level in the battery’s cells must be checked often to prevent damage.

To help each driver find a more comfortable driving position, the 4C has a telescoping steering wheel. Much better than just a tilt steering wheel or adjustable seat, this allows a short driver to sit further from the steering wheel while maintaining contact with the pedals. The 370Z doesn’t offer a telescoping steering wheel.

The 4C’s speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The 370Z’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The 4C’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Nissan only offers heated mirrors on the 370Z Sport/Sport Touring/NISMO.

The 4C was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2015. The 370Z has never been an “All Star.”
