For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Volvo V90 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

The V90’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The F-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Volvo V90 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Volvo V90 offers optional built in child booster seats. They’re more crash worthy than an added child seat because of their direct attachment to the seat. Jaguar doesn’t offer the convenience and security of a built-in child booster seat in the F-Pace. Their owners must carry a heavy booster seat in and out of the vehicle; V90 owners can just fold their built-in child seat up or down.

The V90 has standard Automatic Braking After Collision, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Compared to metal, the V90’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Jaguar F-Pace has a metal gas tank.

Both the V90 and the F-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The V90’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the F-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 60 percent more Volvo dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the V90’s warranty.

The V90 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The V90’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Pace Base’s standard 60 series tires. The V90’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the F-Pace Prestige/R-Sport/S/Portfolio’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the V90 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the F-Pace Base.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the V90’s wheelbase is 2.7 inches longer than on the F-Pace (115.8 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

The V90 T6 AWD Inscription handles at .94 G’s, while the F-Pace Portfolio pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The V90 T6 AWD Inscription executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the F-Pace R-Sport (26.3 seconds @ .67 average G’s vs. 26.8 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the V90 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the F-Pace SVR (6 vs. 5.9 inches), allowing the V90 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The V90 is 7.5 inches narrower than the F-Pace, making the V90 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The design of the Volvo V90 amounts to more than styling. The V90 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .31 Cd. That is significantly lower than the F-Pace (.36) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the V90 get better fuel mileage.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the V90 T6 AWD Inscription is quieter than the F-Pace S:

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the F-Pace (except Base), the V90 Inscription has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The V90 has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The V90 Inscription offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the F-Pace.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Volvo V90 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The F-Pace doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
