The LC Series has a standard Pre-Collision System, which uses forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Corvette doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.
The LC Series has standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Corvette doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.
The LC Series’ lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Corvette doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.
The LC Series offers optional Intuitive Parking Assist to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The Corvette doesn’t offer a front parking aid.
The LC Series’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Corvette doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
Both the LC Series and the Corvette have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.
The Lexus LC Series weighs 703 to 1005 pounds more than the Chevrolet Corvette. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
The LC Series comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Corvette’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 14,000 miles sooner.
Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LC Series 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Chevrolet covers the Corvette. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Corvette ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.
The LC Series’ 6 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Corvette runs out after 100,000 miles.
For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the LC Series have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engines in the Corvette.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked fourth.
From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2019 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus first in reliability. Chevrolet is ranked 25th.
On the EPA test cycle the LC 500h Auto gets better fuel mileage than the Corvette SMG (26 city/34 hwy vs. 15 city/27 hwy).
Regenerative brakes improve the LC Series Hybrid’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Corvette doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.
In heavy traffic or at stoplights the LC Series Hybrid’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The Corvette doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.
The LC Series’ standard fuel tank has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corvette (21.7 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The LC Series Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Corvette (22.2 vs. 18.5 gallons).
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Lexus LC Series higher (5 to 7 out of 10) than the Chevrolet Corvette (3). This means the LC Series produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Corvette every 15,000 miles.
A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LC Series, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Corvette.
The LC 500h has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Corvette doesn’t offer a CVT.
For better stopping power the LC Series’ brake rotors are larger than those on the Corvette:
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LC Series has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 19-inch front wheels are available on the Corvette. The LC Series offers optional 21-inch wheels.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the LC Series’ wheelbase is 5.8 inches longer than on the Corvette (113 inches vs. 107.2 inches).
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the LC Series is 2 inches wider in the rear than on the Corvette.
The LC Series’ front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the Corvette’s (40% to 60%). This gives the LC Series more stable handling and braking.
For better maneuverability, the LC Series Active Rear Steering’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the Corvette with Magnetic Ride Control’s (34.8 feet vs. 36.4 feet). The LC Series’ turning circle is 2.7 feet tighter than the Corvette’s (35.4 feet vs. 38.1 feet).
As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the LC 500h is quieter than the Corvette Coupe:

The LC Series has standard seating for 4 passengers; the Corvette can only carry 2.
The LC Series has 34.9 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Corvette (85.9 vs. 51).
The LC Series has 2.1 inches more front hip room and 2.1 inches more front shoulder room than the Corvette Coupe.
A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the LC Series easier. The LC Series’ trunk lift-over height is 33.6 inches, while the Corvette’s liftover is 38.7 inches.
J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Chevrolet. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 36% lower rating, Chevrolet is ranked 13th.
The LC Series’ standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Corvette.
The LC Series’ standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower both of them with the lock engaged. Chevrolet does not offer a locking feature on the Corvette’s standard power windows.
The LC Series’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Corvette’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.
While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the LC Series detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Corvette doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.
To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LC Series has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Corvette doesn’t offer cornering lights.
To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the LC Series has a standard Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Corvette doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
The LC Series was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2018. The Corvette has never been an “All Star.”
