The Yukon (except SLE) offers an optional HD Surround Vision to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Tahoe only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Yukon and the Tahoe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Yukon has a standard 220-amp alternator (250-amp - Yukon Diesel). The Tahoe’s standard 150-amp alternator and largest (6.2 V8) 170-amp alternator aren’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Yukon has a standard 800-amp battery (900 Diesel). The Tahoe’s 720-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2019 Auto Issue reports that GMC vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks GMC 3 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The Yukon’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 77 lbs.-ft. more torque (460 vs. 383) than the Tahoe’s standard 5.3 V8.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Yukon’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The Tahoe doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

For superior ride and handling, the GMC Yukon has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Chevrolet Tahoe has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Yukon has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Yukon flat and controlled during cornering. The Tahoe’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Yukon’s wheelbase is 4.9 inches longer than on the Tahoe (120.9 inches vs. 116 inches).

The Yukon’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Tahoe’s parking brake has to released manually.

The Yukon’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Tahoe’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.
