Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Yaris for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Hyundai doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Accent.

There are over 47 percent more Toyota dealers than there are Hyundai dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Yaris’ warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Hyundai is ranked 8th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in reliability. Hyundai is ranked 10th.

To facilitate fast shifting and allow the driver to focus on the road, the Yaris has a standard up-shift light to indicate when to shift, based on a value pre-entered by the driver. The Accent doesn’t offer an up-shift light.

A standard “hill holder” feature keeps the Toyota Yaris with manual transmission from rolling backwards on a steep slope. The Accent doesn’t offer a hill holder feature.

The Yaris Sedan handles at .83 G’s, while the Accent SE pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Yaris’ turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Accent’s (32.2 feet vs. 33.5 feet).

The Yaris’ driver’s power window opens or closes with one touch of the window control, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths. The Accent’s standard driver’s power window switch has to be held the entire time to close it fully.

The Yaris XLE’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Accent’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Consumer Reports rated the Yaris’ headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Accent’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Yaris detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Accent doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

Typical repairs cost much less on the Yaris than the Accent, including $124 less for a muffler, $10 less for front brake pads, $130 less for fuel injection and $272 less for a fuel pump.
