The GT-R has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Corvette doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GT-R has standard Front and Rear Sonar System to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The Corvette doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

Both the GT-R and the Corvette have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the GT-R have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the engines in the Corvette.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2019 Auto Issue reports that Nissan vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Nissan 14 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The GT-R’s 3.8 turbo V6 produces 70 more horsepower (565 vs. 495) than the Corvette Z51’s standard 6.2 V8. All wheel drive, available in the GT-R, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Chevrolet Corvette is not available with all wheel drive.

The GT-R’s brakes have 12% more swept area (the area covered by the brake pads) than the Corvette (719 vs. 640 square inches), so the GT-R has more braking power available.

The GT-R (except Premium/50th Anniversary Edition) offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Corvette doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GT-R’s wheelbase is 2.2 inches longer than on the Corvette (109.4 inches vs. 107.2 inches).

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the GT-R has a liquid-filled front engine mount. The liquid helps further dampen engine harshness. The Corvette uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The design of the Nissan GT-R amounts to more than styling. The GT-R has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Corvette (.32). A more efficient exterior helps the GT-R go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GT-R get better fuel mileage.

The GT-R’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them. Chevrolet does not offer a locking feature on the Corvette’s standard power windows.

The GT-R’s speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Corvette’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.
