The Countryman has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The MINI Countryman has Daytime Running Lights to help keep it more visible under all conditions. Canadian government studies show that driving with lights during the day reduces accidents by 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer Daytime Running Lights.

Both the Countryman and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and front parking sensors.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and with its optional front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Countryman the rating of “Top Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 169 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Evoque has not been tested, yet.

The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Countryman is 6.3 inches narrower on average than the Range Rover Evoque, making the Countryman easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The design of the MINI Countryman amounts to more than styling. The Countryman offers aerodynamic coefficients of drag from .32 to .33 Cd (depending on bodystyle and options). That is lower than the Range Rover Evoque (.35 to .39) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Countryman get better fuel mileage.

The Countryman has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Countryman to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Countryman has a standard rear wiper. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Consumer Reports rated the Countryman’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Range Rover Evoque’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the MINI Countryman offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
