The Metris Cargo offers an optional collision warning system, which detects an impending crash through forward mounted sensors and flashes a bright light and sounds a loud, distinctive tone to warn the driver to brake or maneuver immediately to avoid a collision. The system also pre-charges the brakes to begin deceleration more quickly. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn't offer a collision warning system.

The Metris Cargo’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The Metris Cargo offers optional Parktronic™ to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Metris Cargo has a standard 175-amp alternator (190-amp - Metris Cargo optional). The ProMaster City Tradesman’s 160-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

The battery on the Metris Cargo is under the seat, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Metris Cargo’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The ProMaster City Tradesman’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Ram vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes 12th in initial quality. With 11 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ram is ranked 21st.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes 13th in reliability, above the industry average. With 37 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ram is ranked 26th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mercedes 9 places higher in reliability than Ram.

Regenerative brakes improve the Metris Cargo’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Metris Cargo offers an optional system to automatically turn off the engine when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. For more complete vehicle control the Metris Cargo has Touch Shift, with the available convenience of an automatic transmission and the complete gear control of a manual transmission without the inconvenience of a clutch. Touch Shift allows the driver to eliminate unwanted shifts and maximize engine braking by down shifting while cornering. The Mercedes Metris Cargo has standard four-wheel disc brakes for better stopping power and improved directional control in poor weather. Only rear drums come on the ProMaster City Tradesman. Drums can heat up and make stops longer, especially with antilock brakes that work much harder than conventional brakes.

The Metris Cargo’s available liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The ProMaster City Tradesman’s two swing out doors impair rear visibility, need a lot of clearance, and can block loading in tight quarters.

If the front windows are left open on the Metris Cargo the driver can close them from a distance using the remote (remote must be aimed at door sensor). On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the ProMaster City Tradesman can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Metris Cargo has a standard locking fuel door. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

The Metris Cargo’s standard variable intermittent wipers have an adjustable delay to allow the driver to choose a setting that best clears the windshield during light rain or mist. The ProMaster City Tradesman’s fixed intermittent wipers only have one fixed delay setting, so the driver will have to manually switch them between slow and intermittent. The Metris Cargo’s optional wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Metris Cargo to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Metris Cargo has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer automatic headlights.

The Metris Cargo’s optional dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The Metris Cargo’s standard automatic temperature control maintains the temperature you set to maintain a consistent, comfortable environment. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer automatic air conditioning.

The Metris Cargo’s optional Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The ProMaster City Tradesman doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
