The AMG GT 4-Door’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.
The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard Active Brake Assist, which uses forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The XE SV Project 8 doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.
Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard Rear Cross Traffic Brake that use rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.
The AMG GT 4-Door’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.
The AMG GT 4-Door’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
The AMG GT 4-Door has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.
Both the AMG GT 4-Door and the XE SV Project 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.
The Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door weighs 747 to 911 pounds more than the Jaguar XE SV Project 8. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
There are over 2 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT 4-Door’s warranty.

J.D. Power ranks Mercedes 13th in reliability, above the industry average. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 25th.
The AMG GT 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 516) than the XE SV Project 8’s 5.0 supercharged V8. The AMG GT 63 S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 38 more horsepower (630 vs. 592) and 148 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 516) than the XE SV Project 8’s 5.0 supercharged V8.

On the EPA test cycle the AMG GT 53 gets better fuel mileage than the XE SV Project 8 (19 city/24 hwy vs. 16 city/22 hwy).
An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ fuel efficiency. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
Regenerative brakes improve the AMG GT 4-Door 53’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.
The AMG GT 4-Door has 4.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the XE SV Project 8 (21.1 vs. 16.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the XE SV Project 8 Premium/Prestige/Portfolio/R-Sport/S, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
The AMG GT 4-Door’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The XE SV Project 8’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.
Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the AMG GT 4-Door to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard extendable sun visors. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer extendable visors.
On extremely cold winter days, the AMG GT 4-Door’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional Active Distance Assist Distronic, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console and for the rear passengers. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
The AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
