For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Wagon have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Maserati Quattroporte doesn’t offer pretensioners for the middle seat belts.
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the AMG E-Class Wagon. But it costs extra on the Quattroporte.
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
The AMG E-Class Wagon has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.
Both the AMG E-Class Wagon and the Quattroporte have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available lane departure warning systems.
The Mercedes AMG E-Class Wagon weighs 492 to 624 pounds more than the Maserati Quattroporte. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Quattroporte’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).
There are over 3 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG E-Class Wagon’s warranty.
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 179 more horsepower (603 vs. 424) and 199 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 428) than the Quattroporte S’ standard 3.0 turbo V6. The AMG E-Class Wagon’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 80 more horsepower (603 vs. 523) and 103 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 524) than the Quattroporte GTS’ standard 3.8 turbo V8.
An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG E-Class Wagon’s fuel efficiency. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG E-Class Wagon higher (5 to 6 out of 10) than the Maserati Quattroporte (1). This means the AMG E-Class Wagon produces up to 45.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Quattroporte every 15,000 miles.
A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG E-Class Wagon, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Quattroporte.
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the AMG E-Class Wagon has larger tires than the Quattroporte (F:265/35R20 & R:295/30R20 vs. F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19). The AMG E 63 S Wagon’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Quattroporte (F:265/35R20 & R:295/30R20 vs. F:245/40R20 & R:285/35R20).
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s 265/35R20 front and 295/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Quattroporte’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG E-Class Wagon has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Quattroporte.
The front and rear suspension of the AMG E-Class Wagon uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Quattroporte, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The AMG E-Class Wagon has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The AMG E-Class Wagon’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
The AMG E-Class Wagon is 10.1 inches shorter than the Quattroporte, making the AMG E-Class Wagon easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The AMG E-Class Wagon has standard seating for 7 passengers; the Quattroporte can only carry 5.
The AMG E-Class Wagon has 1.8 inches more rear headroom and 1.8 inches more rear shoulder room than the Quattroporte.
Pressing a switch automatically lowers the AMG E-Class Wagon’s second row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.
Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Quattroporte, the AMG E-Class Wagon has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
The AMG E-Class Wagon offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and other key instrumentation readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a heads-up display.
Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG E-Class Wagon to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid. Its standard heated washer nozzles will defrost the washer fluid but not the windshield.
To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the AMG E-Class Wagon has a standard rear wiper. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer a rear wiper.
The AMG E-Class Wagon offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Quattroporte.
To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG E-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
The AMG E-Class Wagon’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Quattroporte doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
The Mercedes AMG E-Class comes in coupe, convertible, sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Maserati Quattroporte isn’t available as a coupe, convertible or station wagon.
