To maximize occupant safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe have pretensioners to eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Toyota Supra doesn’t offer pretensioners.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Supra doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Toyota Supra doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.
The AMG E-Class Coupe has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Supra doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.
The AMG E-Class Coupe offers an optional Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Supra only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.
Both the AMG E-Class Coupe and the Supra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available lane departure warning systems and rear cross-path warning.
The Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe weighs 1032 pounds more than the Toyota Supra. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
The AMG E-Class Coupe comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Supra’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 14,000 miles sooner.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s 3.0 turbo 6 cyl. hybrid produces 94 more horsepower (429 vs. 335) and 19 lbs.-ft. more torque (384 vs. 365) than the Supra’s 3.0 turbo 6 cyl.
The AMG E-Class Coupe has 3.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Supra (17.4 vs. 13.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe higher (5 out of 10) than the Toyota Supra (3). This means the AMG E-Class Coupe produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Supra every 15,000 miles.
A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG E-Class Coupe, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Supra.
All-wheel drive, available in the AMG E-Class Coupe, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all-wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Toyota Supra is not available with all-wheel drive.

The AMG E-Class Coupe’s optional 275/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Supra’s 35 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG E-Class Coupe offers optional 20-inch wheels. The Supra’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.
Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the AMG E-Class Coupe can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Supra doesn’t offer run-flat tires.
The front and rear suspension of the AMG E-Class Coupe uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Supra, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The AMG E-Class Coupe has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The AMG E-Class Coupe’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Supra doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Supra doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the AMG E-Class Coupe’s wheelbase is 15.9 inches longer than on the Supra (113.1 inches vs. 97.2 inches).
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the AMG E-Class Coupe is 1.3 inches wider in the front and .2 inches wider in the rear than on the Supra.
The AMG E-Class Coupe has standard seating for 4 passengers; the Supra can only carry 2.
The AMG E-Class Coupe has 38 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Supra (89 vs. 51).
With its coupe body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the AMG E-Class offers cargo security. The Supra’s hatchback body style and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.
To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the AMG E-Class Coupe’s power trunk can be opened or closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Supra doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.
J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Mercedes service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes fifth in service department satisfaction. With a 30% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 14th.
Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Supra, the AMG E-Class Coupe has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Supra doesn’t offer an easy entry system.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. Toyota does not offer a locking feature on the Supra’s standard power windows.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Supra’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.
Keyless-Go standard on the AMG E-Class Coupe allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Toyota Supra’s Smart Key System doesn’t unlock the trunk.
Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG E-Class Coupe to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The Supra doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid.
To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the AMG E-Class Coupe has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Supra doesn’t offer cornering lights. The AMG E-Class Coupe also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.
To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the AMG E-Class Coupe has standard extendable sun visors. The Supra doesn’t offer extendable visors.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The Supra’s visors are fixed into the windshield header.
A power rear sunshade is optional in the AMG E-Class Coupe to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Supra doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.
Optional air-conditioned seats in the AMG E-Class Coupe keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Supra doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
On extremely cold winter days, the AMG E-Class Coupe’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Supra doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Supra’s available navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.
To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG E-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Supra 3.0 Premium/Launch Edition offers wireless charging.
The AMG E-Class Coupe offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Supra doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
The AMG E-Class Coupe’s optional Active Parking Assist can parallel park by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Supra doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
The Mercedes AMG E-Class comes in coupe, convertible, sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Toyota Supra isn’t available as a convertible, sedan or station wagon.
