The Levante has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Range Rover doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Levante and the Range Rover have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The Levante Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Range Rover doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Levante has larger standard tires than the Range Rover (265/50R19 vs. 235/65R19).

The Levante’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover’s standard 65 series tires. The Levante’s optional 265/35R22 front and 295/30R22 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Range Rover’s optional 40 series tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Levante’s wheelbase is 3.3 inches longer than on the Range Rover (118.3 inches vs. 115 inches).

The Levante’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Range Rover’s (48.9% to 51.1%). This gives the Levante more stable handling and braking.

The Levante S handles at .91 G’s, while the Range Rover P525 HSE pulls only .75 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Levante S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.2 seconds quicker than the Range Rover HSE (25.5 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Levante’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the Range Rover’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The Levante’s turning circle is 4.5 feet tighter than the Range Rover LWB’s (38.4 feet vs. 42.9 feet).

The Maserati Levante may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 950 pounds less than the Land Rover Range Rover.

The Levante is 7.4 inches shorter in height than the Range Rover, making the Levante much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The design of the Maserati Levante amounts to more than styling. The Levante offers aerodynamic coefficients of drag from .31 to .33 Cd (depending on bodystyle and options). That is lower than the Range Rover (.34 to .35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Levante get better fuel mileage.

The Levante’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Range Rover’s tailgate’s top part raises up, but the bottom part lowers, getting in the way of loading and making an uneven surface for sliding cargo.

The Levante’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Range Rover does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Levante’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Range Rover’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Levante to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Range Rover doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Levante offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Range Rover doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Levante has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Levante has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover.
