The Levante has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Levante and the Range Rover Sport have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

For better traction, the Levante has larger standard tires than the Range Rover Sport (265/50R19 vs. 235/65R19).

The Levante’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Sport’s standard 65 series tires. The Levante’s optional 265/35R22 front and 295/30R22 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Range Rover Sport’s optional 40 series tires.

The Levante’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Levante’s wheelbase is 3.2 inches longer than on the Range Rover Sport (118.3 inches vs. 115.1 inches).

The Levante’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Range Rover Sport’s (48.4% to 51.6%). This gives the Levante more stable handling and braking.

The Levante S handles at .91 G’s, while the Range Rover Sport HSE pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Levante S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.1 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Sport HSE (25.5 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 27.6 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Levante’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the Range Rover Sport’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.6 feet). The Levante’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Range Rover Sport SVR’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The design of the Maserati Levante amounts to more than styling. The Levante offers aerodynamic coefficients of drag from .31 to .33 Cd (depending on bodystyle and options). That is lower than the Range Rover Sport (.34 to .35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Levante get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the Levante uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Levante’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Range Rover Sport does not have an oil pressure gauge.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Levante to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Levante offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Levante has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Levante to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Range Rover Sport doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Levante has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Range Rover Sport.
