The Ghibli has standard Anti-Whiplash Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The AMG E-Class Sedan doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Ghibli and the AMG E-Class Sedan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

On the EPA test cycle the Ghibli S Q4 3.0 twin-turbo V6 (424 HP) gets better fuel mileage than the AMG E 63 S V8 (16 city/24 hwy vs. 15 city/23 hwy).

The Ghibli has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG E-Class Sedan doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghibli offers optional 21-inch wheels. The AMG E-Class Sedan’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Ghibli has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the AMG E-Class Sedan; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the AMG E-Class Sedan don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Ghibli is 2.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the AMG E-Class Sedan.

The Ghibli’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the AMG E-Class Sedan’s (55.3% to 44.7%). This gives the Ghibli more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Ghibli’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the AMG E-Class Sedan’s (38.4 feet vs. 41 feet).

The Maserati Ghibli may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 500 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan.

The design of the Maserati Ghibli amounts to more than styling. The Ghibli has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is lower than the AMG E-Class Sedan (.32) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Ghibli get better fuel mileage.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Ghibli S Q4 is quieter than the AMG E 63 S (78 vs. 84 dB).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Ghibli a Large car, while the AMG E-Class Sedan is rated a Mid-size.

The Ghibli has 10 cubic feet more passenger volume than the AMG E-Class Sedan (108 vs. 98).

The Ghibli has 1.4 inches more front headroom and .6 inches more rear headroom than the AMG E-Class Sedan.

The Ghibli’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG E-Class Sedan does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Ghibli offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG E-Class Sedan doesn’t offer headlight washers.
