For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lincoln Nautilus are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Nautilus has standard Post Impact Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The 3 Series Gran Turismo doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the Nautilus and the 3 Series Gran Turismo have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all-wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Lincoln Nautilus is safer than the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo:

Lincoln’s powertrain warranty covers the Nautilus 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than BMW covers the 3 Series Gran Turismo. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the 3 Series Gran Turismo ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 2 times as many Lincoln dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Nautilus’ warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Lincoln vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lincoln fifth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is ranked 20th, below the industry average.

The Nautilus’ standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. produces 2 more horsepower (250 vs. 248) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (280 vs. 258) than the 330i Gran Turismo’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The Nautilus’ optional 2.7 turbo V6 produces 13 more horsepower (335 vs. 322) and 50 lbs.-ft. more torque (380 vs. 330) than the 340i Gran Turismo’s standard 3.0 turbo 6 cyl.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Lincoln Nautilus uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The 3 Series Gran Turismo requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Nautilus has 2.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the 3 Series Gran Turismo (18 vs. 15.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Nautilus has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 3 Series Gran Turismo doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better traction, the Nautilus has larger standard tires than the 3 Series Gran Turismo (245/60R18 vs. 225/45R18). The Nautilus’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 3 Series Gran Turismo (265/40R21 vs. 225/45R19).

The Nautilus’ optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 340i Gran Turismo’s optional 45 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Nautilus offers optional 21-inch wheels. The 3 Series Gran Turismo’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Nautilus has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the 3 Series Gran Turismo; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.
