For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LX 570 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Audi Q7 doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

The LX 570 has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Q7 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the LX 570 and the Q7 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Lexus LX 570 weighs 697 to 1271 pounds more than the Audi Q7. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better traction, the LX 570 has larger standard tires than the Q7 (275/50R21 vs. 255/55R19).

The LX 570’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Q7 2.0T’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LX 570 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Q7 2.0T.

The LX 570 has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Q7, it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some models of the Q7 don’t even offer run-flats.

The LX 570 has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The LX 570’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Q7 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The LX 570’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Q7’s (55.2% to 44.8%). This gives the LX 570 more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the LX 570’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the Q7’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the LX 570 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Q7 (8.9 vs. 8.3 inches), allowing the LX 570 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The LX 570 has standard seating for 8 passengers; the Q7 can only carry 7.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the LX 570’s middle and third row seats recline. The Q7’s third row seats don’t recline.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the LX 570 easier. The LX 570’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.8 inches, while the Q7’s liftover is 32.5 inches.

The LX 570’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Q7’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

The LX 570’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Q7 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the LX 570 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Q7 only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

Optional air-conditioned the front and second row seats keep the LX 570’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Q7 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The LX 570 has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Q7 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
