For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Lexus NX Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Both the Range Rover Velar and NX Series have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Velar has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The NX Series’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Velar. But it costs extra on the NX Series.

Both the Range Rover Velar and the NX Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Velar’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Lexus only offers a regenerative brake system on the NX Series 300h.

Regardless of its engine, the Range Rover Velar’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) Lexus only offers an automatic engine start/stop system on the NX Series 300h.

The Range Rover Velar has 6.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the NX Series Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (21.6 vs. 14.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Range Rover Velar has 5.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the NX Series’ standard fuel tank (21.6 vs. 15.9 gallons).

For better traction, the Range Rover Velar has larger standard tires than the NX Series (255/50R20 vs. 225/65R17). The Range Rover Velar’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the NX Series (265/45R21 vs. 235/55R18).

The Range Rover Velar’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the NX Series’ standard 65 series tires. The Range Rover Velar’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the NX Series F Sport’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Velar has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the NX Series. The Range Rover Velar’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 18-inch wheels optional on the NX Series.

The Range Rover Velar offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the NX Series, it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Range Rover Velar P380 has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Velar’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The NX Series doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Velar’s wheelbase is 8.4 inches longer than on the NX Series (113.1 inches vs. 104.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Velar is 2.7 inches wider in the front and 3.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the NX Series.

The Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic handles at .84 G’s, while the NX 300 F Sport AWD pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the NX 300h AWD (26.2 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.8 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Velar has a 1.7 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the NX 300h (8.4 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Range Rover Velar to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Velar P380’s minimum ground clearance is 3 inches higher than on the NX 300 (9.9 vs. 6.9 inches).

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Velar amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Velar has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .32 Cd. That is lower than the NX Series (.34) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Velar get better fuel mileage.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography is quieter than the NX 300 F Sport AWD (67 vs. 69 dB).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Range Rover Velar easier. The Range Rover Velar’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.7 inches, while the NX Series’ liftover is 31.2 inches.

The engine in the Range Rover Velar is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the NX Series. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The Range Rover Velar has a maintenance free battery for long life without checking the battery’s water level. The NX Series doesn’t have a maintenance free battery, so the water level in the battery’s cells must be checked often to prevent damage.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the NX Series, the Range Rover Velar HSE has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Velar offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The NX Series doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Range Rover Velar’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The NX Series’ standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Velar to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The NX Series doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Velar offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The NX Series doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Both the Range Rover Velar and the NX Series offer optional heated front seats. The Range Rover Velar also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the NX Series.

The Range Rover Velar HSE/SVAutobiography has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the NX Series.

The Range Rover Velar’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The NX Series doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
