The K900’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Ghibli doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The K900 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Ghibli doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.
To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the K900. But it costs extra on the Ghibli.
The K900’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Ghibli doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
Both the K900 and the Ghibli have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.
The Kia K900 weighs 540 to 672 pounds more than the Maserati Ghibli. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
The K900 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Ghibli’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.
Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the K900 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the Ghibli. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Ghibli ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.
The K900’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and 50,000 miles longer than the Ghibli’s (5/100,000 vs. 4/50,000).
There are almost 7 times as many Kia dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the K900’s warranty.
The K900’s 3.3 turbo V6 produces 20 more horsepower (365 vs. 345) and 7 lbs.-ft. more torque (376 vs. 369) than the Ghibli’s standard 3.0 turbo V6.
On the EPA test cycle the K900 gets better fuel mileage than the Ghibli S Q4 3.0 twin-turbo V6 (424 HP) (18 city/25 hwy vs. 16 city/24 hwy).
To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Kia K900 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Ghibli requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.
For better stopping power the K900’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Ghibli:
For better traction, the K900 has larger tires than the Ghibli (F:245/45R19 & R:275/40R19 vs. 235/50R18).
The K900’s 245/45R19 front and 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ghibli’s standard 50 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the K900 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Ghibli.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the K900’s wheelbase is 4.2 inches longer than on the Ghibli (122.2 inches vs. 118 inches).
The design of the Kia K900 amounts to more than styling. The K900 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .27 Cd. That is lower than the Ghibli (.29) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the K900 get better fuel mileage.
The front grille of the K900 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Ghibli doesn’t offer active grille shutters.
The K900 has 2.3 inches more front headroom, 8 inches more front legroom, 1.2 inches more front shoulder room, 3.4 inches more rear legroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Ghibli.
For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the K900’s available rear seats recline. The Ghibli’s rear seats don’t recline.
With its sedan body style, valet key and remote trunk release lockout, the K900 offers cargo security. The Ghibli’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.
A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the K900. The Ghibli doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.
Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the Ghibli, the K900 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
The K900 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and other key instrumentation readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Ghibli doesn’t offer a heads-up display.
To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the K900 has standard extendable sun visors. The Ghibli doesn’t offer extendable visors.
A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are standard in the K900 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Ghibli doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.
The K900 has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Ghibli doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.
The K900 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Ghibli.
