The K900’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XTS doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the K900. But it costs extra on the XTS.

The K900’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XTS doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the K900 and the XTS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The Kia K900 weighs 462 to 641 pounds more than the Cadillac XTS. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The K900 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XTS’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the K900 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the XTS. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the XTS ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The battery on the K900 is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the K900’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The XTS’ battery is in the hot engine compartment.

On the EPA test cycle the K900 gets better fuel mileage than the XTS V-Sport AWD turbo V6 (18 city/25 hwy vs. 16 city/23 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the K900’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The XTS doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Kia K900 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The XTS V-Sport requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The K900 has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the XTS FWD’s standard fuel tank (20.3 vs. 19 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The K900’s 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XTS’ standard 45 series tires.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the K900 is 2.8 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the XTS.

The K900 handles at .87 G’s, while the XTS AWD pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The K900’s power trunk can also be opened or closed by pressing a button. The XTS doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The K900’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The XTS’ standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The K900 has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The XTS doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The K900 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the XTS.
