For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar XF have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XF’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

The XF S offers an optional Surround Camera System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The CT4 V-Series only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The XF’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the XF and the CT4 V-Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The XF comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The CT4 V-Series’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XF for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the CT4 V-Series.

The XF has 2.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the CT4 V-Series (19.5 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar XF higher (7 out of 10) than the Cadillac CT4 V-Series (6). This means the XF produces up to 1.1 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the CT4 V-Series every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the XF has larger standard tires than the CT4 V-Series (245/45R18 vs. 235/40R18). The XF’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the CT4 V-Series (255/35R20 vs. 235/40R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XF offers optional 20-inch wheels. The CT4 V-Series’ largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The XF has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the CT4 V-Series; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the CT4 V-Series don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The XF Sportbrake has a standard automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the XF’s wheelbase is 7.2 inches longer than on the CT4 V-Series (116.5 inches vs. 109.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the XF is 2.8 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the CT4 V-Series.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the XF Sedan a Mid-size car, while the CT4 V-Series is rated a Compact.

The XF has 5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the CT4 V-Series (95 vs. 90).

The XF Sedan has 1.7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.7 inches more rear headroom, 3.2 inches more rear legroom and 2.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the CT4 V-Series.

The XF Sedan has a much larger trunk with its rear seat up than the CT4 V-Series (19.1 vs. 10.7 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the XF offers cargo security. The CT4 V-Series’ non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote trunk release defeat cargo security.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the XF’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The XF uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The CT4 V-Series uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the CT4 V-Series, the XF S has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The XF’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The CT4 V-Series’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the XF the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the CT4 V-Series can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the XF to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XF has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The CT4 V-Series’ optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The XF’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XF S Sedan and manual rear side window sunshades are optional in the XF S to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

Both the XF and the CT4 V-Series offer optional heated front seats. The XF also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the CT4 V-Series.

The XF S’ optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The CT4 V-Series doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
