Both the XE and AMG A-Class have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The XE has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The AMG A-Class’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The XE has a standard Whiplash Reduction System, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Reduction System moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the XE’s standard All Surface Progress Control allows you to creep down safely. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer All Surface Progress Control.

To help make backing safer, the XE’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the XE and the AMG A-Class have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The XE comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG A-Class’ 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

The XE’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG A-Class’ (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XE for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG A-Class.

The battery on the XE is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the XE’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The AMG A-Class’ battery is in the hot engine compartment.

Regenerative brakes improve the XE’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The XE has 3.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG A-Class (16.6 vs. 13.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The XE R-Dynamic S’ optional 265/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG A-Class’ optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XE R-Dynamic S offers optional 20-inch wheels. The AMG A-Class’ largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The XE has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the AMG A-Class; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the AMG A-Class don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The XE has a much larger trunk than the AMG A-Class (14.5 vs. 8.6 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the XE offers cargo security. The AMG A-Class’ non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the XE offers an optional power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer a power trunk, so its trunk has to be closed manually.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the XE to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XE offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XE to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The AMG A-Class doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

Both the XE and the AMG A-Class offer optional heated front seats. The XE also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the AMG A-Class.
