The XE’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The XE comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The A4’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XE for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A4.

On the EPA test cycle the XE 25t AWD gets better highway fuel mileage than the A4 45 TFSI Quattro Auto 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. (248 HP) (24 city/34 hwy vs. 24 city/32 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the XE’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The A4 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The XE has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the A4 (16.6 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The XE’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A4’s standard 50 series tires. The XE R-Dynamic S’ optional 265/30R20 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the A4’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XE has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the A4. The XE R-Dynamic S’ optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the A4.

The XE has a much larger trunk than the A4 (14.5 vs. 13 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the XE easier. The XE’s trunk lift-over height is 25.5 inches, while the A4’s liftover is 26.9 inches.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the XE offers an optional power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, completely leaving your hands free. The A4 doesn’t offer a power trunk, so its trunk has to be closed manually.

The XE has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The A4 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Consumer Reports rated the XE’s headlight performance “Fair,” a higher rating than the A4’s headlights, which were rated “Poor.”

The A4’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The XE (except Base)’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XE to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The A4 doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.
