For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Jaguar XE have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Alfa Romeo Giulia doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Both the XE and Giulia have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The XE has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Giulia’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The XE has a standard Whiplash Reduction System, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash Reduction System moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Giulia doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The XE offers an optional Surround Camera System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Giulia only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the XE and the Giulia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The XE comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Giulia’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

The XE’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Giulia’s (6 vs. 4 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the XE for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Alfa Romeo only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Giulia.

There are over 12 percent more Jaguar dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the XE’s warranty.

Regenerative brakes improve the XE’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Giulia doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The XE has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia (16.6 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar XE higher (7 out of 10) than the Alfa Romeo Giulia (3). This means the XE produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Giulia every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the XE R-Dynamic S’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Giulia (F:235/35R20 & R:265/30R20 vs. F:225/40R19 & R:255/35R19).

The XE’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Giulia’s standard 50 series tires. The XE R-Dynamic S’ optional 235/35R20 front and 265/30R20 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Giulia Sport/Ti’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XE has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Giulia. The XE R-Dynamic S’ optional 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels optional on the Giulia Ti.

The XE has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Giulia; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The XE’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Giulia doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the XE is 1.7 inches wider in the front than the track on the Giulia.

The XE handles at .86 G’s, while the Giulia Ti Q4 pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The XE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Giulia Ti (26.4 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.1 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the XE’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Giulia’s (36.8 feet vs. 37.5 feet).

The XE has a much larger trunk than the Giulia (14.5 vs. 12 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the XE offers cargo security. The Giulia’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the XE’s power trunk can be opened or closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Giulia doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The XE offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Giulia doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the XE the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Giulia can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The XE offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Giulia doesn’t offer headlight washers.

A power rear sunshade is optional in the XE to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Giulia doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

When the XE is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Giulia’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the XE keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Giulia doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The XE’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Giulia doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
