The F-Type offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The F-Type’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

To help make backing safer, the F-Type’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

The F-Type’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the F-Type and the 718 Boxster have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and front parking sensors.


The F-Type comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 718 Boxster’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Type for 4 years and 50,000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the 718 Boxster (5/60,000 vs. 1/10,000).

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the F-Type P300 RWD gets better fuel mileage than the 718 Boxster Auto with its standard engine (23 city/30 hwy vs. 22 city/29 hwy).

The F-Type 2.0-liter’s standard fuel tank has 2.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the 718 Boxster’s standard fuel tank (16.6 vs. 14.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The F-Type V6/V8’s standard fuel tank has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the 718 Boxster’s optional fuel tank (18.5 vs. 16.9 gallons).

Transmission and Drivetrain

The Jaguar F-Type comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the 718 Boxster.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Jaguar F-Type, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the 718 Boxster.

All wheel drive, available in the F-Type, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Porsche 718 Boxster is not available with all wheel drive.

For better traction, the F-Type has larger standard tires than the 718 Boxster (F:245/45R18 & R:275/40R18 vs. F:235/45R18 & R:265/45R18). The F-Type SVR’s front tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 718 Boxster (F:265/35R20 & R:305/30R20 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:305/30R20).

The F-Type’s standard 275/40R18 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 718 Boxster’s standard 45 series tires.

The F-Type offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the 718 Boxster; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The F-Type’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the F-Type’s wheelbase is 5.8 inches longer than on the 718 Boxster (103.2 inches vs. 97.4 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Type is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 3.7 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 718 Boxster.

For better maneuverability, the F-Type’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the 718 Boxster’s (35 feet vs. 36.1 feet).

Cargo Capacity

With its convertible body style and remote trunk release lockout, the F-Type offers cargo security. The 718 Boxster’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.


The F-Type Auto has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the 718 Boxster, the F-Type has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster) and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The F-Type’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the 718 Boxster.

On a hot day the F-Type’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the 718 Boxster can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The F-Type’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The 718 Boxster’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The F-Type R-Dynamic/R/SVR’s optional Park Assist can parallel park by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The 718 Boxster doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Jaguar F-Type comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Porsche 718 Boxster isn’t available as a coupe.
