Safety

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Palisade are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Buick Enclave doesn’t offer height-adjustable front seat belts.

The Palisade offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Enclave doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Palisade’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Enclave doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Palisade and the Enclave have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The Palisade comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Enclave’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Palisade 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Buick covers the Enclave. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Enclave ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The Palisade’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Enclave’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Reliability

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Palisade has a standard 800-amp battery. The Enclave’s 730-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Buick vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles, Buick is ranked 16th, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Buick vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 9 places higher in reliability than Buick.

Tires and Wheels

The Palisade’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Enclave’s standard 65 series tires. The Palisade’s optional tires have a lower 50 series profile than the Enclave’s optional 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The Palisade offers an optional automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Enclave doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For greater off-road capability the Palisade has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Enclave (7.9 vs. 7.7 inches), allowing the Palisade to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Hyundai Palisade may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 300 pounds less than the Buick Enclave.

The Palisade is 8.2 inches shorter than the Enclave, making the Palisade easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The Palisade has standard seating for 8 passengers; the Enclave can only carry 7.

The Palisade has 2.9 inches more front legroom, .2 inches more rear headroom, 3.5 inches more rear legroom and .2 inches more third row headroom than the Enclave.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Palisade’s middle and third row seats recline. The Enclave’s third row seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Palisade easier. The Palisade’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.6 inches, while the Enclave’s liftover is 31.2 inches.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Palisade’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Enclave doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Palisade. The Enclave doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Palisade’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Enclave’s (5000 vs. 1500 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Palisade Limited has a standard heads-up display that projects speed readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Enclave doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Palisade’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Enclave’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The Palisade Limited’s standard wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield. The Enclave’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Optional air-conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Palisade’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Enclave doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.
