The G70’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the G70 and the A4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard front crash prevention system, and its headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the G70 its highest rating: “Top Pick Plus” for 2019, a rating granted to only 55 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The A4 is only a standard “Top Pick” for 2019.

The G70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The A4’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G70 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Audi covers the A4. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the A4 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A4.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the G70 has a standard 800-amp battery. The A4’s 420-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the G70 first among compact premium cars in their 2019 Initial Quality Study. The A4 isn’t in the top three.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 43 more problems per 100 vehicles, Audi is ranked 22nd, below the industry average.

The G70’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A4’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G70 has standard 18-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the A4.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the G70’s wheelbase is 1.6 inches longer than on the A4 (111.6 inches vs. 110 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the G70 is .9 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the A4.

The G70’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the A4’s (56% to 44%). This gives the G70 more stable handling and braking.

The G70 handles at .94 G’s, while the A4 Premium pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The G70 Standard executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2 seconds quicker than the A4 Premium (25.2 seconds @ .75 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .64 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the G70’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the A4’s (36.1 feet vs. 38.1 feet). The G70 AWD’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the A4’s (37.4 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

The G70 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The A4 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The G70 3.3T/Elite/2.0T Manual/Prestige/Sport’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The A4 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The G70’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The A4’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Consumer Reports rated the G70’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the A4’s headlights, which were rated “Poor.”

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The G70’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the A4’s headlights are rated “Acceptable” to “Marginal.”

The A4’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The G70 3.3T Elite/Prestige/Sport’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

When the G70 3.3T/Elite/2.0T Manual/Prestige/Sport is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The A4’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis G70 3.3T Elite/Prestige/Sport has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The A4 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Insurance will cost less for the G70 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the G70 will cost $650 less than the A4 over a five-year period.

The G70 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the G70 will retain 41.05% to 41.79% of its original price after five years, while the A4 only retains 37.24% to 38.04%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Genesis G70 will be $804 to $3541 less than for the Audi A4.
