The Escape has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The UX Series doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than Lexus vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Ford fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lexus is ranked 8th.

An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Escape 1.5 Turbo’s fuel efficiency. The UX Series doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regardless of its engine, the Escape’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) Lexus only offers an automatic engine start/stop system on the UX Series Hybrid.

The Escape 1.5 Turbo’s standard fuel tank has 4.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX Series Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (14.7 vs. 10.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Escape 2.0 Turbo’s standard fuel tank has 3.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the UX Series’ standard fuel tank (15.8 vs. 12.4 gallons).

The Escape has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The UX Series doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Escape offers optional 19-inch wheels. The UX Series’ largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The Escape has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the UX Series; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Escape’s wheelbase is 2.8 inches longer than on the UX Series (106.7 inches vs. 103.9 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Escape is 1.4 inches wider in the front and .8 inches wider in the rear than on the UX Series.

For better maneuverability, the ’s turning circle is 34.2 feet tighter than the UX Series’ ( feet vs. 34.2 feet).

The UX Series prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Escape’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The UX Series’ standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Escape Titanium has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The UX Series doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
