For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Journey are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Mercedes GLB doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

The Dodge Journey offers optional built in child booster seats. They’re more crash worthy than an added child seat because of their direct attachment to the seat. Mercedes doesn’t offer the convenience and security of a built-in child booster seat in the GLB. Their owners must carry a heavy booster seat in and out of the vehicle; Journey owners can just fold their built-in child seat up or down.

The Journey has standard Active Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The GLB doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Journey and the GLB have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Journey 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the GLB. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the GLB ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 6 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Journey’s warranty.

The battery on the Journey is in the front fender, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Journey’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The GLB’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge 8th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 12th, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2019 Auto Issue reports that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Dodge 13 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Dodge Journey uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GLB requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Journey has 4.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the GLB (20.5 vs. 15.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Journey has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GLB; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some tire options on the GLB don’t have a run-flat feature, either.

The Journey has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The GLB’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Journey’s wheelbase is 2.4 inches longer than on the GLB (113.8 inches vs. 111.4 inches).

The Journey has .1 inches more front headroom, 1.6 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 2 inches more rear shoulder room and 2.9 inches more third row headroom than the GLB.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Journey’s middle and third row seats recline. The GLB’s third row seats don’t recline.

The Journey’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The GLB does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Journey has standard extendable sun visors. The GLB doesn’t offer extendable visors.
