The Continental GT offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The AMG S-Class Coupe doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

For better traction, the Continental GT has larger standard tires than the AMG S-Class Coupe (F:265/40R21 & R:305/35R21 vs. F:255/40R20 & R:285/35R20). The Continental GT’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the AMG S-Class Coupe (F:275/35R22 & R:315/30R22 vs. F:255/40R20 & R:285/35R20).

The Continental GT’s optional 275/35R22 front and 315/30R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG S-Class Coupe’s 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Continental GT has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the AMG S-Class Coupe. The Continental GT offers optional 22-inch wheels.

The Continental GT offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The AMG S-Class Coupe doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Continental GT offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Mercedes doesn’t offer an active suspension on the AMG S-Class Coupe.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Continental GT is 1.2 inches wider in the front and .8 inches wider in the rear than on the AMG S-Class Coupe.

The Continental GT Coupe handles at .99 G’s, while the AMG S-Class Coupe pulls only .92 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Continental GT Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the AMG S-Class Coupe (23.8 seconds @ .85 average G’s vs. 24.9 seconds @ .82 average G’s).

The Continental GT is 8 inches shorter than the AMG S-Class Coupe, making the Continental GT easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Bentley Continental GT amounts to more than styling. The Continental GT has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the AMG S-Class Coupe (.33). A more efficient exterior helps the Continental GT go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the Continental GT get better fuel mileage.
