The Continental GT’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
The Continental GT has standard front and rear seat side-impact airbags and head airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn't offer rear-seat side-impact airbags, only ones for front seat occupants.
The Continental GT offers optional Bentley Safeguard Plus, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.
The Continental GT has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.
An active infrared night vision system optional on the Continental GT helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a night vision system.
The Continental GT’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.
The Continental GT offers an optional Top View to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The GranTurismo Convertible only offers front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.
The Continental GT’s blind spot warning system uses digital cameras monitored by computer to alert the driver to moving objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.
To help make backing safer, the Continental GT’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.
The Continental GT has standard Private eCall, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.
Both the Continental GT and the GranTurismo Convertible have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and front and rear parking sensors.
The Bentley Continental GT weighs 561 to 957 pounds more than the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
The Continental GT comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The GranTurismo Convertible’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.
The Continental GT’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the GranTurismo Convertible’s (unlimited vs. 50,000 miles).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Continental GT’s fuel efficiency. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Continental GT’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.
The Continental GT has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the GranTurismo Convertible (24 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
An eight-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Bentley Continental GT, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the GranTurismo Convertible.
All wheel drive, available in the Continental GT, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible is not available with all wheel drive.
The Continental GT’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer launch control.
For better stopping power the Continental GT’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GranTurismo Convertible:
For better traction, the Continental GT has larger standard tires than the GranTurismo Convertible (F:265/40R21 & R:305/35R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:285/35R20). The Continental GT’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GranTurismo Convertible (F:275/35R22 & R:315/30R22 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:285/35R20).
The Continental GT’s optional 315/30R22 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GranTurismo Convertible’s 35 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Continental GT has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the GranTurismo Convertible. The Continental GT offers optional 22-inch wheels.
The Continental GT offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.
The front and rear suspension of the Continental GT uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the GranTurismo Convertible, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The Continental GT offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Maserati doesn’t offer an active suspension on the GranTurismo Convertible.
The Continental GT has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Continental GT’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Continental GT is 3.4 inches wider in the front and 2.9 inches wider in the rear than on the GranTurismo Convertible.
For better maneuverability, the Continental GT’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the GranTurismo Convertible’s (37.8 feet vs. 40.4 feet).
The design of the Bentley Continental GT amounts to more than styling. The Continental GT has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the GranTurismo Convertible (.33). A more efficient exterior helps the Continental GT go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the Continental GT get better fuel mileage.
To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Continental GT has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button, or optionally by just a gesture, completely leaving your hands free. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a power trunk.
The Continental GT offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a heads-up display.
The Continental GT’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. Maserati does not offer a locking feature on the GranTurismo Convertible’s standard power windows.
The Continental GT’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The GranTurismo Convertible’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.
Advanced Key System standard on the Continental GT allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer an advanced key system.
While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the Continental GT detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.
Optional air-conditioned seats in the Continental GT keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
On extremely cold winter days, the Continental GT’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
The Continental GT offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the GranTurismo Convertible.
To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the Continental GT offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
The Continental GT’s standard separate stalk mounted cruise control is close at hand. The GranTurismo Convertible’s standard cruise control is on an over-crowded turn signal stalk.
The Continental GT’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The GranTurismo Convertible doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
The Bentley Continental GT comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Maserati GranTurismo isn’t available as a coupe.
