The Stelvio Ti’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Stelvio and the Cayenne Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all-wheel drive, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, front parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The engine in the Stelvio has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engines in the Cayenne Coupe have dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

The Cayenne Coupe’s redline is at 6500 to 6800 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Stelvio has a 5500 RPM redline.

On the EPA test cycle the Stelvio AWD gets better fuel mileage than the Cayenne Coupe with its standard engine (22 city/28 hwy vs. 19 city/23 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Cayenne Coupe requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Stelvio has a standard Panic Brake Assist System to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The Stelvio is 9.6 inches shorter than the Cayenne Coupe, making the Stelvio easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio amounts to more than styling. The Stelvio has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .32 Cd. That is lower than the Cayenne Coupe (.34 to .35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Stelvio get better fuel mileage.

This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Stelvio’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Cayenne Coupe.

The Stelvio’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Cayenne Coupe’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Stelvio to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Stelvio has a standard rear wiper. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Stelvio has standard extendable sun visors. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer extendable visors.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Cayenne Coupe doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
