The Stelvio Ti’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Q8 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The engine in the Stelvio has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engine in the Q8 has dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

The Q8’s redline is at 6700 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Stelvio has a 5500 RPM redline.

The battery on the Stelvio is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Stelvio’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Q8’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1000 to 1100 pounds less than the Audi Q8.
