The NSX’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The 911 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the NSX. But it costs extra on the 911.

Both the NSX and the 911 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Acura’s powertrain warranty covers the NSX 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the 911. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the 911 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 42 percent more Acura dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the NSX’s warranty.

The NSX’s 3.5 turbo V6 hybrid produces 203 more horsepower (573 vs. 370) and 145 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 331) than the 911’s standard 3.0 turbo 6 cyl. The NSX’s 3.5 turbo V6 hybrid produces 153 more horsepower (573 vs. 420) and 108 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 368) than the 911 S’ standard 3.0 turbo 6 cyl. The NSX’s 3.5 turbo V6 hybrid produces 123 more horsepower (573 vs. 450) and 71 lbs.-ft. more torque (476 vs. 405) than the 911 GTS’ standard 3.0 turbo 6 cyl.

As tested in Car and Driver the Acura NSX is faster than the 911 S 3.0 turbo 6 cyl. (automatics tested):

The NSX has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The 911 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Acura NSX higher (3 out of 10) than the Porsche 911 (1). This means the NSX produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 911 every 15,000 miles.

The Acura NSX comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the 911.

A nine-speed automatic (SMG) is standard on the Acura NSX, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the 911.

For better traction, the NSX has larger tires than the 911 (F:245/35R19 & R:305/30R20 vs. F:235/40R19 & R:295/35R19).

The NSX’s 245/35R19 front and 305/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 911’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the NSX has standard 20-inch rear wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the 911.

The NSX has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The 911 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the NSX’s wheelbase is 7 inches longer than on the 911 (103.5 inches vs. 96.5 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the NSX is 4.1 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 911.

The NSX’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (42% to 58%) than the 911’s (40.1% to 59.9%). This gives the NSX more stable handling and braking.

The NSX handles at 1.06 G’s, while the 911 Coupe pulls only 1.00 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the NSX has liquid-filled engine mounts. The liquid helps further dampen engine harshness. The 911 uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The NSX uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The 911 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the NSX is quieter than the 911 GT2 RS:

With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the NSX offers cargo security. The 911’s non-lockable folding seat and non-lockable remote release defeat cargo security.

The NSX’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them. Porsche does not offer a locking feature on the 911’s standard power windows.

If the windows are left open on the NSX the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the 911 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Keyless Access System standard on the NSX allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Porsche 911’s available Porsche Entry and Drive doesn’t unlock the trunk.
