Safety

The ForTwo Electric Drive Passion/Prime offers an optional collision warning system, which detects an impending crash through forward mounted sensors and flashes a bright light and sounds a loud, distinctive tone to warn the driver to brake or maneuver immediately to avoid a collision. The Soul EV doesn't offer a collision warning system.

Both the ForTwo Electric Drive and the Soul EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available rear parking sensors.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the ForTwo Electric Drive gets better fuel mileage than the Soul EV (124 city/94 hwy vs. 124 city/93 hwy MPGe).

Tires and Wheels

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s optional 185/50R16 front and 205/45R16 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Soul EV’s 60 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Soul EV doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the ForTwo Electric Drive’s turning circle is 12.2 feet tighter than the Soul EV’s (22.8 feet vs. 35 feet).

Chassis

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 900 to 950 pounds less than the Kia Soul EV.

The ForTwo Electric Drive is 4 feet, 8.9 inches shorter than the Soul EV, making the ForTwo Electric Drive easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The ForTwo Electric Drive is 5.4 inches narrower than the Soul EV, making the ForTwo Electric Drive easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Passenger Space

The ForTwo Electric Drive Coupe has .1 inches more front headroom and .3 inches more front legroom than the Soul EV.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the ForTwo Electric Drive Cabriolet easier. The ForTwo Electric Drive Cabriolet’s trunk lift-over height is 29.2 inches, while the Soul EV’s liftover is 31.1 inches. The ForTwo Electric Drive Coupe’s liftover is only 28.7 inches.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the ForTwo Electric Drive. The Soul EV doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Soul EV’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Ergonomics

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Soul EV’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted. The ForTwo Electric Drive’s optional wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the ForTwo Electric Drive offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Soul EV doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Model Availability

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Kia Soul EV isn’t available as a coupe or convertible.
