Tires and Wheels

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s optional 185/50R16 front and 205/45R16 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Kona Electric’s 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Kona Electric doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the ForTwo Electric Drive’s turning circle is 12 feet tighter than the Kona Electric’s (22.8 feet vs. 34.8 feet).

Chassis

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1400 pounds less than the Hyundai Kona Electric.

The ForTwo Electric Drive is 4 feet, 10.5 inches shorter than the Kona Electric, making the ForTwo Electric Drive easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The ForTwo Electric Drive is 5.4 inches narrower than the Kona Electric, making the ForTwo Electric Drive easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Cargo Capacity

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the ForTwo Electric Drive. The Kona Electric doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Kona Electric’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Servicing Ease

The ForTwo Electric Drive uses a reverse-tilt hood for easier service access. The Kona Electric uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Kona Electric’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Kona Electric SE/Limited’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the ForTwo Electric Drive offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Kona Electric doesn’t offer cornering lights.

On extremely cold winter days, the ForTwo Electric Drive’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Kona Electric doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

Model Availability

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Hyundai Kona Electric isn’t available as a coupe or convertible.
