Safety

Both the ForTwo Electric Drive and the Clarity Electric have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available collision warning systems and rear parking sensors.

Warranty

The ForTwo Electric Drive comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Clarity Electric’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 14,000 miles sooner.

Suspension and Handling

The ForTwo Electric Drive has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Clarity Electric doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Clarity Electric doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the ForTwo Electric Drive’s turning circle is 15.6 feet tighter than the Clarity Electric’s (22.8 feet vs. 38.4 feet).

Chassis

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1650 pounds less than the Honda Clarity Electric.

The ForTwo Electric Drive is 7 feet, 2.59999999999999 inches shorter than the Clarity Electric, making the ForTwo Electric Drive easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The ForTwo Electric Drive is 8.4 inches narrower than the Clarity Electric, making the ForTwo Electric Drive easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Cargo Capacity

To allow full utilization of available cargo room, the ForTwo Electric Drive’s trunk lid uses gas strut supported hinges that don’t intrude into the trunk. Its intrusive beam hinge reduces the Clarity Electric’s useful trunk space.

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the ForTwo Electric Drive. The Clarity Electric doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Servicing Ease

The ForTwo Electric Drive uses a reverse-tilt hood for easier service access. The Clarity Electric uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Ergonomics

The ForTwo Electric Drive’s standard speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn’t have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The Clarity Electric’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted. The ForTwo Electric Drive’s optional wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically according to the amount of rainfall on the windshield.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the ForTwo Electric Drive (except Cabrio) has a standard rear wiper. The Clarity Electric doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the ForTwo Electric Drive offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Clarity Electric doesn’t offer cornering lights.

On extremely cold winter days, the ForTwo Electric Drive’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Clarity Electric doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

Model Availability

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Honda Clarity Electric isn’t available as a coupe or convertible.
