For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Rolls-Royce Phantom have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The BMW 7 Series doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

Both the Phantom and 7 Series have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Phantom has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The 7 Series’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Phantom and the 7 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom weighs 516 to 1559 pounds more than the BMW 7 Series. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better traction, the Phantom has larger standard tires than the 7 Series (255/45R22 vs. 245/50R18). The Phantom’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 7 Series (285/45R21 vs. 255/35R21).

The Phantom’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 7 Series’ standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Phantom has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the 7 Series. The Phantom’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Alpina B7.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Phantom can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. Run-flat tires aren’t available on some tire packages on the 7 Series.
