For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Macan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

The Macan has standard Multi-collision Brake System, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Macan offers an optional Surround View to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The Macan has standard Porsche Connect, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Macan and the Stelvio Quadrifoglio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes and blind spot warning systems.

The Macan’s corrosion warranty is 8 years longer than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s (12 vs. 4 years).

There are over 9 percent more Porsche dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Macan’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Macan has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio (19.8 vs. 16.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Macan offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Macan’s optional launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer launch control.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Macan’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Stelvio Quadrifoglio (F:265/40R21 & R:295/35R21 vs. F:255/45R20 & R:285/40R20).

The Macan’s optional 265/40R21 front and 295/35R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Macan offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Macan has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Stelvio Quadrifoglio; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Macan has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Macan’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better maneuverability, the Macan’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Macan has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio (8 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the Macan to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Macan’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the Stelvio Quadrifoglio (9 vs. 7.9 inches).

The Porsche Macan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 50 to 250 pounds less than the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

The front grille of the Macan uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Cargo Capacity

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the Macan. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Macan’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s (4409 vs. 3000 pounds).

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the Macan offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle and climate settings and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Macan keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
