For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the engines in the 370Z have an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Challenger.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the 370Z’s reliability 27 points higher than the Challenger.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2017 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Dodge vehicles. J.D. The 370Z’s brakes have 18% more swept area (the area covered by the brake pads) than the Challenger SXT Plus/R/T/GT (603 vs. 513 square inches), so the 370Z has more braking power available.

The 370Z’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the Challenger SXT are solid, not vented.

The 370Z stops much shorter than the Challenger:

For better traction and acceleration, the 370Z has larger standard rear tires than the Challenger (245/45R18 vs. 235/55R18).

The 370Z’s standard 225/50R18 front and 245/45R18 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Challenger SXT’s standard 55 series tires.

The 370Z NISMO Coupe handles at .99 G’s, while the Challenger Scat Pack pulls only .91 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The 370Z Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Challenger Scat Pack (24.9 seconds @ .73 average G’s vs. 25.5 seconds @ .81 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the 370Z’s turning circle is 4.6 feet tighter than the Challenger SXT/R/T’s (32.8 feet vs. 37.4 feet). The 370Z Sport/NISMO’s turning circle is 4.4 feet tighter than the Challenger SRT Hellcat’s (34.1 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

The Nissan 370Z may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 950 pounds less than the Dodge Challenger.

The 370Z is 2 feet, 6 inches shorter than the Challenger, making the 370Z easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Nissan 370Z amounts to more than styling. The 370Z offers aerodynamic coefficients of drag from .3 to .34 Cd (depending on bodystyle and options). That is lower than the Challenger (.337 to .383). A more efficient exterior helps the 370Z go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the 370Z get better fuel mileage.

For excellent aerodynamics, the 370Z has standard flush composite headlights. The Challenger has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The 370Z Sport/Sport Touring/NISMO uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Challenger doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the 370Z Coupe is quieter than the Challenger SRT Hellcat:

The 370Z has a lever hand brake in the console, easy to use while keeping both feet free and not impeding entry and exit. The Challenger’s foot pedal parking brake is not handy to use as a hill holding device with a manual transmission.

The 370Z’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them. Dodge does not offer a locking feature on the Challenger’s standard power windows.

The 370Z has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Challenger doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Typical repairs cost much less on the 370Z than the Challenger, including $357 less for a muffler, $241 less for front brake pads, $206 less for a fuel pump and $340 less for a power steering pump.
