The AMG E 63’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E 63 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.
The middle row seatbelts optional on the AMG E 63 inflate when a collision is detected, helping to spread crash forces over a much larger area of the body and limiting head and neck movement. This can help prevent spinal and internal injuries. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer inflatable seatbelts.
The AMG E 63 has standard Active Brake Assist, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. The AMG E 63’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.
The AMG E 63’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.
The AMG E 63 has standard Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.
Both the AMG E 63 and the XE SV Project 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.
The Mercedes AMG E 63 weighs 650 to 878 pounds more than the Jaguar XE SV Project 8. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
There are over 2 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG E 63’s warranty.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes 13th in reliability, above the industry average. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 25th.
The AMG E 63’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 11 more horsepower (603 vs. 592) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 516) than the XE SV Project 8’s 5.0 supercharged V8.

An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG E 63’s fuel efficiency. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
The AMG E 63 has 4.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the XE SV Project 8 (21.1 vs. 16.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Mercedes AMG E 63 higher (5 out of 10) than the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 (3). This means the AMG E 63 produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the XE SV Project 8 every 15,000 miles.
A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG E 63, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the XE SV Project 8.
The front and rear suspension of the AMG E 63 uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the XE SV Project 8, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The AMG E 63 has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The AMG E 63’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
The AMG E 63’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the AMG E 63’s wheelbase is 4.1 inches longer than on the XE SV Project 8 (115.7 inches vs. 111.6 inches).
Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the AMG E 63 Sedan a Mid-size car, while the XE SV Project 8 is rated a Compact.
The AMG E 63 Wagon has standard seating for 7 passengers; the XE SV Project 8 can only carry 5.
The AMG E 63 has 7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XE SV Project 8 (98 vs. 91).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Mercedes service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Mercedes fifth in service department satisfaction. With a 45% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 20th.
Unlike the driver-only memory system in the XE SV Project 8 Premium/Prestige/Portfolio/R-Sport/S, the AMG E 63 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.
On extremely cold winter days, the AMG E 63’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.
To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the AMG E 63 offers an optional Distronic Plus, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
The AMG E 63 offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The XE SV Project 8 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
The Mercedes AMG E 63 comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 isn’t available as a station wagon.
