The GranTurismo Convertible has standard tall side airbags which act as a forgiving barrier between the driver and front passenger's upper bodies and the window and pillars. Combined with high-strength steel door beams and lower side airbags this system increases head protection in broadside collisions. The Portofino doesn't offer side airbag protection for the head.

Both the GranTurismo Convertible and the Portofino have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and front and rear parking sensors.

The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible weighs 696 pounds more than the Ferrari Portofino. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The GranTurismo Convertible comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Portofino’s 3-year/100,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The GranTurismo Convertible’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Portofino’s (4 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 3 times as many Maserati dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GranTurismo Convertible’s warranty.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The GranTurismo Convertible has a standard Brake Assist System to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Portofino doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo Convertible’s wheelbase is 10.7 inches longer than on the Portofino (115.8 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

The GranTurismo Convertible’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (49% to 51%) than the Portofino’s (46% to 54%). This gives the GranTurismo Convertible more stable handling and braking.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranTurismo Convertible has standard rear a/c vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The Portofino doesn’t offer rear vents.
