The Ghibli has standard Anti-Whiplash Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-Whiplash Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Continental doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Ghibli and the Continental have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Ghibli has a standard 850-amp battery. The Continental’s 650-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

The battery on the Ghibli is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Ghibli’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Continental’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Maserati Ghibli, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a six-speed automatic is available for the Continental.

The Ghibli’s optional 245/35R21 front and 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Continental Select/Reserve’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghibli offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Continental’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Ghibli has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Continental, it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Ghibli has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The Continental’s suspension doesn’t offer front gas-charged shocks.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Ghibli is 1.2 inches wider in the front and 1 inch wider in the rear than on the Continental.

The Ghibli’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Continental’s (58.9% to 41.1%). This gives the Ghibli more stable handling and braking.

The Ghibli S Q4 handles at .91 G’s, while the Continental Black Label AWD pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Ghibli S Q4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the Continental Black Label AWD (25.5 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26.7 seconds @ .68 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Ghibli’s turning circle is 3.4 feet tighter than the Continental’s (38.4 feet vs. 41.8 feet).

The Maserati Ghibli may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 450 pounds less than the Lincoln Continental.

The Ghibli is 5.7 inches shorter than the Continental, making the Ghibli easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The engine in the Ghibli is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Continental. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because there are no rear spark plugs and the accessory belts are in front.

The Ghibli’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Continental does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Ghibli has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Continental doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Ghibli to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Continental doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Ghibli offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Continental doesn’t offer headlight washers.

When the Ghibli with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Continental’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.
